Monday, March 17, 2025
Every player rated from Game 3 of the Championship Series, after Melbourne United hit back.
Derek Rucker has rated all the key players from Sunday's Game 3, with a United star making a huge return to form.
Melbourne went 2-1 ahead, with the chance to seal the Championship Series in Melbourne, but the Hawks will have other ideas.
Game 4 between Melbourne and Illawarra tips off on Wednesday at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN and 10 Bold/10 Play.
The starters
Chris Goulding - Made enough key shots to have an impact. Hasn’t busted loose yet, but is playing intelligent and selfless basketball. 8.2/10
Ian Clark - Came out aggressively and it was needed later in the game. Found his flow in the mid stages of the game to keep Utd in the game. Pro performance. 8/10
Jack White - Delivered the output United fans were clamouring for and bounced back strong in Game 3. Knocked down his first three and navigated through early foul trouble to be the second best player in the game. 9.2/10
Marcus Lee - Excellent defensive game by Lee. Didn’t finish well around the rim and missed all four of his free throws, but was a +13. Contributed significantly to the victory 8.2/10
Matthew Dellavedova - Playing championship level basketball at the point-guard position. Making the big plays and knocking down the clutch shots. Game 3 double-double. 9.3/10
Off the bench
Flynn Cameron - Limited minutes without much opportunity. N/A
Kyle Bowen - Worked hard in his minutes on court and rebounded the ball well. Defensive energy was very good. 7/10
Rob Loe - Struggled early on both ends, but worked his way through it to play better second half minutes. 7.2/10
Tanner Krebs - Hit a big three, but didn’t feature much in this game. 7/10
The starters
Mason Peatling - Good first half and then lost in the shuffle of the second half’s swings. Didn’t contain Jack White early in the game. Intensity didn’t seem up to his normal standard. 5/10
Sam Froling - Another solid game. Underutilised in the second half, but a -22 for the game. Must have an increased presence on the boards in Game 4. 6/10
Trey Kell III - The yo-yo post-season continued for Kell III, including going down in the final stages of Game 3 with a knee concern. Showed signs of excellence, but couldn’t sustain it. 6.5/10
Tyler Harvey - Game 2 hero had many chances to impact the game but couldn’t find the range. 0/7 from deep. Found it difficult to create space in the second half against a smothering United defence. 4/10
Wani Swaka Lo Buluk - Was solid offensively in Game 3. Defensively, he struggled at key moments with dribble penetration and staying connected to United's shooters. -30 in 23 minutes. 6/10
Off the bench
Dan Grida - Limited minutes, but was ready to give more. N/A
Darius Days - Had his best game of the post-season. Established a presence on the block and was efficient. Missed a couple of big momentum threes however. 7.5/10
Hyunjung Lee - Was a +15 in 17 minutes. Impactful with his effort in the first half. Wasn’t able to find space to shoot comfortably throughout the game. Decent without being excellent. 7.3/10
Lachlan Olbrich - Was a positive element in Illawarra’s surges in Game 3. Played hard and proper basketball. 7.3/10
Todd Blanchfield - Didn’t get the flame-thrower going, with 0/4 from deep. Failed to knock down some good looks. Average game. 5/10
Will Hickey - Played a solid game, but was exposed on the offensive end in the critical moments of the fourth quarter. Can’t fault his energy and effort. 7.2/10
