Jo Lual-Acuil Jr – 25PTS, 10REB, 2BLK | 47 SuperCoach points per game
When two of Melbourne’s biggest rebounding presences went down in the first minute of the game, someone was going to have to step up big time on the interior. It’s no surprise that given the necessity for him to have a good game, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr starred in Melbourne’s overtime loss to Perth.

While Ariel Hukporti did return to the court following that inadvertent clash with Luke Travers, Lual-Acuil Jr was the main man on a disappointing night for United, and reminded everyone that he is, in fact, an MVP-calibre player.

He was strong, passionate, emotive and electric – and exactly what fans were hoping to see from JLA when it was announced he would return to the NBL this season.

Trey Kell III – 25PTS, 5REB, 6AST | 43 SuperCoach points per game
Trey Kell III has flown slightly under the radar since Adelaide’s signing of DJ Vasiljevic, but he continued a strong debut season with the 36ers, despite their defeat at RAC Arena to the Wildcats.

Kell not only top scored for his side with 25 points, but he did a little bit of everything to also get involved in the rebounding and assist columns, and even grabbed a steal for good measure.

He was humming in Round 7, and his incredible and unlikely flick pass to Alex Starling just about sums up how he was just making things happen for his side.

Gary Browne – 19.5PTS, 5.5REB, 6,5AST per game | 40 SuperCoach points per game
The injury issues of Gary Browne in NBL23 helped strike a line through the Phoenix’s title hopes, and the Puerto Rican has been showing exactly why he’s so important to South East Melbourne’s success this season.

Injury to Gorjok Gak and foul trouble to Alan Williams meant the Phoenix lost basically all their interior presence against Brisbane in their opening game of the round, but Browne took the onus upon himself to lead the side and ended with 25 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and six assists.

He was quieter in the win over Cairns, but the absence of Will Cummings saw him take on more pressure as a playmaker, and he finished the game with eight assists on top of his 14 points.

Gary Clark – 23PTS, 7REB, 2STL | 38 SuperCoach points per game
At bottom of the ladder with just two wins from eight games this season, there hasn’t been much to love about the Illawarra Hawks outside of Gary Clark. Week in, week out you know he’s going to at least give his side a chance.

The former Houston Rocket rose to the challenge of taking on one of the NBL’s best defenders in DJ Hogg during Illawarra’s clash with Sydney, and ended up leading the game with 23 points on a solid 8-13 shooting.

Four of his seven rebounds also came on the offensive end. Clark was hustling hard, but it just wasn’t enough to inspire the Hawks to victory over their rivals.

Bryce Cotton – 26.5PTS, 3.5REB, 2AST per game | 36.5 SuperCoach points per game
You’ll struggle to find an NBL fan who isn’t smiling at the prospect of getting to witness Bryce Cotton being back to his absolute best in Round 7 – outside of Melbourne and Adelaide that is.

The two-time NBL Fans MVP winner was electric in both of Perth’s games this past weekend. The Wildcats’ victory over Adelaide certainly wasn’t pretty, but it was needed – and Cotton inspired the victory with a frankly ridiculous second half that saw him finish the game with 29 points.

Then, against the ladder-leading Melbourne, Cotton took centre stage once again for his side to finish the game with 24 points – including 13 of 14 made free throws.

His radar from range still needed to be calibrated slightly against United, but after impressing in 43 minutes of action following a match-winning performance against Adelaide, it’s safe to say Bryce is back.

Anthony Lamb – 24PTS, 4.5REB, 2BLK per game | 36 SuperCoach points per game
A weekly theme of Anthony Lamb’s short time in the NBL to date has been head coach Mody Maor saying there is still more to come from the Golden State Warrior. If there’s still more to come after his incredible Round 7, the rest of the competition had better watch out.

Lamb was solid in the win over Cairns with 19 points on strong shooting splits, but he absolutely broke the game open for the Breakers in their narrow defeat to Sydney, and very nearly snatched the game from the reigning champions on his hot hand alone.

He finished with 29 points and seven boards against the Kings, and was highly active on the defensive end with a trio of steals and a trio of blocks. He shot 50 per cent from the field across the game, but after missing three potential go-ahead buckets in the final 34 seconds of the game, he might be left to lament what could have been an incredible match-winning performance.

Matthew Dellavedova – 23PTS, 4REB, 6AST | 35 SuperCoach points per game

Melbourne star Matthew Dellavedova might not have expected to play almost 37 minutes in an overtime thriller in his first game back from concussion, but Delly did what Delly does against the Wildcats, and that’s fight tooth and nail for everything he can.

The Olympic bronze medal winner came off the bench behind Ian Clark and Shea Ili on Monday, but after Clark was lost to an injury of his own, Dellavedova stood tall and almost won United the game with a heavily-contested layup with just seconds remaining.

The initial foul was overturned upon review, meaning he didn’t have the opportunity to shoot a go-ahead free throw before Melbourne lost in overtime, but Dellavedova was inspired in front of a raucous John Cain Arena crowd. Pure box office stuff.

Jaylen Adams – 14PTS, 2.5REB, 8AST | 34.5 SuperCoach points per game

Jaylen Adams was Sydney’s top performer in a pair of victories over the weekend? Is this NBL22 or NBL24?

The former MVP continues to thrive in Mahmoud Abdelfattah’s system, and while his scoring numbers aren’t quite as giddy as they were in his last stint at the Kings, his all-around game is being allowed to flourish in this share-heavy unit.

He added a lazy 16 point and seven assists in Sydney’s 20-point win over Illawarra, before playing a more distribution-heavy role against New Zealand, where he added 12 points and nine assists – and a pair of steals.
