Cadee announces retirement

Tuesday, February 11, 2025
"The NBL has been my life since my childhood, but I know it’s the right time."
Adelaide 36ers point guard Jason Cadee will retire at the end of the NBL25 season.
Cadee informed the playing group of his retirement on Tuesday morning at training in Melbourne ahead of Thursday night’s Play-In battle against the Sydney Kings at Qudos Bank Arena.
Across a 15-year, 422-game career, Cadee has played for the 36ers on two occasions (2012-2014 and 2023-2025), as well as stops at the Gold Coast Blaze (2010-2012), Sydney Kings (2014-2018) and Brisbane Bullets (2018-2023).
“My journey has been phenomenal, and it’s been an incredible ride,” Cadee said.
“I can now look to the next chapter of my professional life, and it’s an exciting time for my family and I.”
The 2020 NBL Best Sixth Man has averaged 8.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game throughout his career to date.
“Let’s hope there’s a few more games left this season, and we can make a push for the ultimate prize. Now that would be a special way to finish” Cadee said.
Cadee has been playing a pivotal role for the Sixers during the back half of the season and is looking to finish his career the best way possible.
“That’s what’s made this decision harder, I know I can still play an important role, but I’m at peace that I am finishing on my terms” Cadee said.
“The NBL has been my life since my childhood, but I know it’s the right time and I’m committed to doing everything I can with Mike and the guys to finish on a high note.”
The 186cm point guard said his decision has been weeks in the making, but he was excited to take on an opportunity with Australian underwear company Step One as his next challenge.
“Sometimes opportunities pop up and when you get to the stage I’m at later in your career, you are always looking at your post basketball life,” Cadee said.
“I was fortunate to cross paths with Step One CEO Greg Taylor a few years back and that has evolved into a fantastic opportunity to join the company on a full-time basis. Step One is an amazing story, and I am excited about joining the team.
“It’s a chance for me to move into another space outside of basketball and that’s exciting and challenging all at once.”
