Bullets crown NBL25 leaders

Tuesday, August 20, 2024

The Brisbane Bullets have announced Mitch Norton, Sam McDaniel, and Casey Prather as the club's leaders.

342-game NBL veteran Mitch Norton will take a lead role at the Brisbane Bullets this season, named as the club's captain.

The two-time NBL champion has only been at the Bullets for one year, but has clearly made a significant impact in a short time.

“Norto is the perfect person to lead us into the next phase of our program through great experience and an ability to connect with people," Bullets' head coach. Justin Schueller said.

“As a player, I've always just kind of left it all out there on the floor, and that's naturally made me a leader by example. But to be voted by my teammates and peers, I think it's a really cool achievement and testament to how I've paved my way through the league,” Norton continued.

Import Casey Prather, and 2021 NBL champion, Sam McDaniel were also named among the Bullets' leadership group.

Prather quickly became a household name to the Brisbane faithful after the three-time NBL champion was brought in by the Bullets as a replacement player for DJ Mitchell, midway through NBL24.

McDaniel had career-high numbers in his first season with the Bullets, averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds a game in his most recent season.

“We have three outstanding men that have naturally led this club since the day they arrived and became a Bullet. To be voted in by their peers speaks volumes to the respect they have within the group,” Schueller said.

“Both Casey and Sam have qualities that you want in your leaders in their daily actions and habits.

“All three have experienced winning at the highest level and we know they will drive those standards daily within the group.”

The Bullets will get to show-off their revamped roster at the Blitz on the Gold Coast, before heading to HoopsFest to face the New Zealand Breakers on September 21, in Round 1 of NBL25.

They'll take on the Shanghai Sharks in their first official pre-season game on Friday night, with the game to be streamed live and free via NBL+ on the NBL App from 6.30pm AEST.
