The perfect blueprint for development players to follow is already within the JackJumpers’ locker room according to newly re-signed guard Walter Brown

The perfect blueprint for development players to follow is already within the JackJumpers’ locker room, according to newly re-signed guard Walter Brown, who is looking to replicate the achievements of teammate Sean Macdonald in NBL24.

Brown made eight appearances in his first ever NBL campaign as a development player, while Macdonald hit the floor 32 times and earned a nomination for the Most Improved Player award.

“Sean is a great example of someone who is a development player who showed he could mix it with anyone and everyone,” Brown said.

“Scott (Roth) saw that, and is going to play whatever guys are going to get the job done.

“He’s definitely the blueprint for what you want to do as a development player.”

After earning a one-year contract ahead of his maiden campaign for the JackJumpers, Brown has now signed a three-year extension with the club.

The first two years of his new deal will see him remain a development player, while the third season will see him elevated to the main roster.

Brown says the contract is a display of faith from both sides.

“I’m super-stoked that they’ve put that confidence in me to sign me for that long,” he said.

“It’s a great feeling knowing I’ve got two years as a development player to improve on my game, and by the time that third year comes I hope to be really ready to take on that fully rostered gig.

“As a player you’ve always got to back yourself … I definitely feel like I’ve improved a lot.

“Being a development player and young means to just keep learning and getting better as I go.”
