Brisbane Roster to be Built from Boomers Base

Brisbane Bullets’ newly appointed head coach Justin Schueller is optimistic on building a competitive roster for NBL24 based around former NBA big Aron Baynes and former All-NBL First Team member Nathan Sobey.
The Bullets entered the NBL23 campaign among the favourites for the title due to the signing of Baynes and NBA veteran Tyler Johnson to play alongside Sobey, but a tumultuous and drama filled campaign saw the side endure several coaching changes and finish ninth.
However, Schueller is bringing a fresh voice to the Bullets and expressed his excitement to get stuck into the construction of a new team, and confirms he wants to base the side around the two leaders – Baynes and Sobey - the only two players contracted at the moment.
“The beauty of it is we’ve got two Olympians on the roster to build around and when you’ve got that, it always puts you in good stead,” Schueller told News Corp.
“Being able to move this club forward with a bit of a different direction and find a way to utilise their assets as best as possible is going to be an absolute key.”
Baynes played 576 games in the NBA over nine years and won a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 alongside fellow Boomer and former Melbourne Tiger Patty Mills.
Sobey played in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alongside Baynes after finishing third in the NBL's Andrew Gaze MVP Award in the same year behind Bryce Cotton and Tyler Harvey.
Schueller was appointed as Brisbane's head coach earlier this month, taking over from interim coach Greg Vanderjagt.
