The Australian Boomers will play on home soil for the first time since claiming bronze at the Tokyo Olympics when they face China and Japan as part of the FIBA 2023 World Cup Qualifiers.

Australia, China, Japan and Chinese Taipei will compete over six games including two double headers at John Cain Arena in Melbourne.

The Boomers face China on June 30, followed by Japan on July 1 and China once again on July 3.

Head Coach Brian Goorjian is hopeful of having as many members of the bronze medal winning team as possible.

“I’m very excited to be coaching the Boomers as we return to Melbourne to play on home soil. These games are important for us to qualify for the FIBA World Cup next year,” Goorj said.

“We expect China and Japan to be tough competitors, so the fans are in for some great games. John Cain Arena is a terrific stadium for basketball and we look forward to the fans coming out in their green and gold to support our team.”
