Adams to bring fire to Bullets

Thursday, January 2, 2025
"Everything was live with him, he's an athlete and I'm excited to team up with him."
Justin Schueller still has nightmares over what Josh Adams did to Melbourne United in NBL22.
Adams put on his superman cape on in the Tasmania JackJumpers inaugural season, scoring 30 points in Game 3 of the semi-finals against United, and then had a combined 63 points across Games 2 and 3 of the Championship Series, eventually won by Sydney.
As reported by News Corp and ESPN, Adams is set to join the Bullets for the rest of this NBL season as a replacement for James Batemon, sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Bullets coach Schueller was an assistant at Melbourne back in NBL22 and had a front-row view of Adams' heroics.
"What we had with JB (Batemon) was three guys who you really had to worry about on the scouting report and then add in Norto (Mitch Norton), Ty (Tyrell Harrison), Whitey (Isaac White) and everyone else benefited from that," Schueller said.
"That's exactly what Josh will bring in as well to be that guy who can plug and play the same sort of way, and I went back and looked at my review of Game 3 of that semi-final series and the clutch ability of him is something that we will look forward to.
"The culture piece is the big thing for us and having connections within the group means he will fit in with this group, which is super-tight and connected. He worked out with Rocco (Zikarsky) pre-season and there's a lot of connectivity there to get to as whole as we can be."
Since playing with the JackJumpers in the 2021/22 season, Adams has spent time in Slovenia and Greece.
"We think he is a complementary piece to what we've got and I think having played in the league before is an advantage to bring in someone at this stage of the season," Schueller said.
"One thing we built this team on is a number of connections within the group of guys who have previously played and I think that continuity will be a positive for us as well.
"We're excited to have a whole group; there's days I look on the sideline and it's almost a starting lineup on the side of the court so to get close back to full strength is exciting.
"This stretch has helped build our depth too which we'll be able to lean into to make a run in this last quarter of the season."
Bullets captain Norton played against Adams back in his time as a Perth Wildcat, and remembers what a challenge it was to try and keep him in check.
Norton can't wait to welcome his new teammate to Brisbane, as the Bullets look to make a run for the top six.
"I remember him being super-competitive and as a defender you couldn’t take a possession, or a moment in a possession, off," Norton said.
"Everything was live with him, he's an athlete and I'm excited to team up with him, to get him in town and to get to work."
