What got Bul Kuol to Sydney

Monday, May 6, 2024
Bul Kuol has explained the presence of Brian Goorjian was a decisive factor in his decision to head to the Sydney Kings.
Bul Kuol loomed as one of the key movers in this year’s NBL free agency period. Now that the notorious defensive stopper has landed with the Kings, he says it was an easy decision to take his talents to Sydney.
Kuol – who has also been named to South Sudan’s extended roster for the upcoming Olympics – has headed to the Kings following three years with the Cairns Taipans, playing under former Sydney head coach Adam Forde.
The 27-year-old was also reported to be garnering extensive interest from the South East Melbourne Phoenix ahead of his move, but he says the prospect of playing under Brian Goorjian was too good to turn down.
“It was an easy choice," Kuol told AAP.
"Sydney is a championship-calibre team every year, they have high expectations, it's a pressure environment.
"'Goorj' coming in here, he's someone who's not messing around.
"When he spoke to me, he basically told me where I was at and where he could help me, where he could further my game.”
