South East Melbourne secure star Sobey signing

Monday, April 15, 2024
Superstar guard Nathan Sobey has officially linked up with South East Melbourne on a two-year deal.
The South East Melbourne Phoenix have pulled off an NBL free agency coup by signing Olympic bronze medal winner and four-time All-NBL nominee Nathan Sobey on a two-year deal.
The Phoenix bought Sobey out of the final year of his contract with the Brisbane Bullets following the mutual decision for the star sharpshooter and his former club to part ways.
Sobey was an early MVP candidate in NBL24 and eventually was named to the All-NBL Second Team, however an apparent breakdown in the relationship between himself and head coach Justin Schueller has led to his departure from the Bullets.
South East Melbourne had already officially parted ways with Alan Williams, Rhys Vague and Anzac Rissetto prior to the signing of Sobey.
The second year of Sobey’s deal contains a mutual option.
“It’s a great coup to have Nathan come across and his experience and leadership will be paramount to our plans in NBL25,” Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations, Simon Mitchell said.
“Above all, we look forward to the Heartland embracing Nathan, his wife CC and his two children as we gain momentum heading into the new campaign.”
