Season Could Be Over for Broekhoff

A groin injury could keep South East Melbourne Phoenix star Ryan Broekhoff out for remainder of the season, coach Simon Mitchell has revealed. 

It's a tough pill to swallow for the 32-year-old, who had posted 26 points in his best game of NBL23 so far, before succumbing to injury in the final quarter against Perth. 

"I'm not expecting great results," Mitchell said following the Phoenix's win.

"It's horrible. The guy just can't take a trick but it's professional sport. We're just hoping for the best and hopefully it's not too bad.

"If history has given us a lesson then it's probably not going to be good news for us or 'Rowdy' (Broekhoff)."

A hip complaint kept Broekhoff out for an extended period earlier this season and another spell on the sidelines is huge blow for both him and the Phoenix. 

He's set to undergo scans on Monday to check the severity of the injury.
