“Same movie, different actors”: Cotton unphased by United

"It’s blurred faces for me. I don’t care what team it is, who’s guarding me, I treat and respect every player the exact same.”

Ahead of his 250th game, MVP frontrunner Bryce Cotton isn’t fazed by who guards him in tomorrow night’s clash with Melbourne United.

Currently on a historic offensive tear, averaging 31.2 points in his past 12 games, Cotton said he’s not worried about Defensive Player of the Year candidate Shea Ili, or anyone else on United guarding him.

“I get attention from whoever we are playing,” Cotton said.

“Same movie, different actors… I approach every game the same, it’s blurred faces for me. I don’t care what team it is, who’s guarding me, I treat and respect every player the exact same.”

This game will be critical to the final standings, with both clubs tied on 15 wins and fighting for a top two position. Cotton explained the past two weeks have been the real start to their post-season run internally.

“The last two weeks, every game has felt more than just a regular season game,” he said.

“If you win, you might go up a spot. If you lose, you might drop two or three. It’s kind of been playoff basketball the last two, three weeks mentally. And coming up to these two games, it’s no different.

“We are all fighting for the same thing, there’s about three or four teams that are fighting for that top two spot. We are all in the same boat, to be honest, it just comes out to who wants it more.”

Reflecting on his stellar career, Cotton revealed how special it is to reach this milestone with the Wildcats.

“It’s pretty crazy, it doesn’t really feel like it’s been 250 games,” he said.

“I guess that’s what happens when you are having fun. It’s a cool milestone to reach. It’s pretty cool to be a part of history at any time, but especially for a club like the Perth Wildcats. It’s really humbling, and I never expected this in a million years but here we are.”

The Wildcats host United on Wednesday night at RAC Arena. Watch the game from 9:30pm AEDT live on ESPN.
