REPORT: Walton Jr set for NBL return

Friday, May 3, 2024
Derrick Walton Jr has been reported as signing for the South East Melbourne Phoenix for NBL25.
Newscorp has reported the South East Melbourne Phoenix are set to make a bombshell move in the context of NBL free agency, and have signed former Sydney King Derrick Walton Jr on a one-year deal.
Walton Jr last appeared in the NBL with the Sydney Kings in NBL23, where he was named to the All-NBL First Team alongside Kings teammate Xavier Cooks, and won the Larry Sengstock Trophy as the Championship Series MVP against the New Zealand Breakers.
He has been representing the Zhejiang Lions alongside former Cairns Taipan Cam Oliver this past season, and has averaged 12.6 points and 5.1 assists per game in 42 appearances.
Should Newscorp's report prove correct, Walton Jr will be the third former King to join the Phoenix this off-season following the confirmed deals of Jordan Hunter and Angus Glover.
