McCarron ready to unleash "best version" of himself

New Breakers signing Mitch McCarron believes a move to New Zealand could help reignite his confidence in his game.

Mitch McCarron is set for a fresh start in NBL25, and following reports of extensive interest in the former All-NBL Second Team nominee’s signature from all around the competition, he says the opportunity to work under Mody Maor was too good to pass up.

The Breakers will be the fourth club of McCarron’s NBL career so far. The 31-year-old broke out during his two seasons in Cairns before he won an NBL title with Melbourne. Now, his three tumultuous years with Adelaide have come to an end.

NBL24 saw McCarron forced to the bench under then-interim head coach Scott Ninnis, who preferred a starting backcourt of DJ Vasiljevic and Trey Kell III, and now McCarron says it’s time for him to get back to his best.

“At the end of the day I look at myself first, I wasn’t the player that I wanted to be over those three years and I could point to a lot of different reasons and I could sit here and make excuses but I’m not going to do that,” McCarron told Code Sports.

“It was disappointing from my own personal standard and I want to get back to being that confident player over the next two years with New Zealand.”

“It made sense to me as somewhere that I can get back to being the best version of myself.”
