King has turned around Sobey’s career: Lowery

Friday, January 31, 2025
“Josh has got Nathan playing the most methodical and surgical, efficient basketball I’ve seen him play his whole career.”
Damon Lowery has praised South East Melbourne Phoenix coach Josh King for how he has been able to get the best out of Nathan Sobey.
Since King took over the Phoenix in Round 7, Sobey is averaging 19.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, while he is coming off an equal career-high 10-assist performance in his last game against the JackJumpers.
Before King’s arrival, Sobey’s averages were just 12.8 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds, with Lowery believing the coach has unlocked a new dimension of efficiency in the 34-year-old.
“He has turned around the career of Nathan Sobey,” Lowery said on SEN.
“Nathan Sobey’s always been a talented player, one of the most talented players in the league, but he has always been a little bit erratic.
“Josh has got Nathan playing the most methodical and surgical, efficient basketball I’ve seen him play his whole career.”
Sobey and the Phoenix have already clinched a Finals spot and they face the Perth Wildcats tonight at 9:30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
