New Zealand Breakers’ guard Will McDowell-White is almost ready to play again after breaking his finger before Christmas.

New Zealand Breakers’ guard Will McDowell-White is almost ready to play again after breaking his finger before Christmas.

McDowell-White broke his right index finger in practice right before Christmas and has been recovering since.

Breakers’ coach Mody Maor gave an update on McDowell-White’s expected return on Friday morning.

“It’s anywhere between 13 days to 3 weeks,” Maor said.

“It matters how he responds, it’s a matter of can he manage the pain, and can he get through the functional movements and strengths tests.”

McDowell-White is eager to take to the court again but recognises the need to fully recover before heading into the playoffs.

“I’m not trying to rush it back, but at the same time we’re trying to get into the playoffs so I want to get back as soon as I can,” McDowell-White said.

“In the past I’ve rushed a lot of injuries…so this year I’m taking precaution but at the same time I do want to be back.”

The Breakers play the Adelaide 36ers on Sunday at 2:00pm AEDT.
