Emerging Illawarra Hawks forward Dan Grida’s battles with injury have continued, with the 24-year-old now expected to miss the start of the upcoming season due to a hamstring issue.
Grida has had a tough run of injuries over the last two seasons having ruptured the ACL in his right knee twice in that time period.
He recently spoke with NBL Media about the mental battle he undertook to return to the court from his second knee reconstruction.
Hawks General Manager of Basketball Mat Campbell has backed his player to approach his recovery with the same professionalism and ferocity as he has in the past.
“This is really disappointing for Dan; he is a beloved member of our organisation,” Campbell told Hawks Media.
“However, we do know that Dan brings such a great attitude to his rehabilitation, something we know we’ll see again this time around.
“We will seek to see a specialist opinion this week to determine what the rehabilitation plan looks like for him.”
At this stage no time-frame for Grida’s return to the court has been released, with the Hawks only stating he'll miss "the beginning of the 2022/23 Hungry Jack's NBL season".
Illawarra will open its pre-season NBL Blitz campaign in Darwin on Sunday, September 18th against Melbourne United.
