For the New Zealand Breakers, playing in enemy territory has become the norm over the past two seasons.

The players, coaches and staff have shown amazing resilience; they’ve caused upset wins, blooded a new generation of emerging stars and overcome adversity like no other team.

But the simple truth is, there’s no place like home.

The Breakers’ return to New Zealand has been 489 days in the making, and on Friday, October 7, emotions are sure to be high at Spark Arena.

“As a player and as a New Zealander, a return to Spark is the moment I’ve looked forward to for so long,” Tom Abercrombie told the team’s website.

“To be able to put a ring around October 7 now makes things more real, and the rest of New Zealand can now join in the excitement too.”

The Breakers last played at home on June 5, 2021.

Much of the roster has changed since the last time the fans saw their team in person, there’s a new coach, Mody Maor, and even a new team, as the Tasmania JackJumpers head to New Zealand for the first time.

“Nothing compares to the energy, excitement and atmosphere that is generated in that building, and I cannot be more excited to run out in front of a capacity home crowd again in October,” Abercrombie added.

The Breakers will play nine games at Spark Arena in Auckland, two games in West Auckland at Trusts Arena and one at TSB Stadium in New Plymouth.

A further two regional games will be confirmed shortly.
