Could Rucker coach Bullets?

“That guy knows his X's and O's and he would say to the players in their eye, this is what you need to do.”

The Brisbane Bullets are on the hunt for a new head coach, and former Sydney Kings captain Brad Rosen has thrown a surprise name into the mix – Derek Rucker.

The 1990 NBL MVP has been part of the broadcast team over the last few years, but Rosen believes his knowledge of the game and no-nonsense attitude could be what the Bullets need.

“Do you go to Derek Rucker? And do you say to him, you're a Brisbane guy. Let's go - get your assistant coaches,” Rosen said on NBL Now.

“That guy knows his X's and O's and he would say to the players in their eye, this is what you need to do.”

Brisbane parted ways with Justin Schueller on Monday after the club failed to make the Finals for the sixth straight season. The Bullets finished 8th with a 12-17 record.

Rosen added the club must nail their head coaching appointment, with the roster build for next season secondary to hiring a strong leader.

“That is the biggest decision for Brisbane and if it’s a proper big coach, you would think it would be a three-year deal. That’s what you need. Massive decision,” Rosen said.

“Players are on the backburner right now. Get the coach, get it right, and whatever it is going to cost you, it will pay off if you get the right one.”
