Gary Browne
20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists | 40 SuperCoach ppg

South East Melbourne needed a hero to step up against Tasmania - enter Gary Browne, who stormed home to snatch the win from one of the competition’s in-form teams.

Still down Tyler Cook and Alan Williams, the Phoenix weren’t given much of a chance by pundits ahead of the clash, and although Browne experienced a litany of injury problems throughout NBL23, South East Melbourne was a drastically better side whenever he was on the floor, and he showed that once again against Tasmania.

Browne went shot for shot with the JackJumpers in the clutch, and committed zero turnovers for the entire game despite running the show for the Phoenix.

Jordon Crawford
22 points, 6 assists, 1 steal per game | 36 SuperCoach ppg

All the external focus leading into Round 3 on Tasmania was centred on Milton Doyle after his back-to-back Foot Locker Player of the Game performances, and while Doyle was still a strong performer this past weekend, Jordon Crawford stole the show for the JackJumpers.

The diminutive guard was one of five players to score in double-figures during the JackJumpers’s dismantling of Illawarra, before showcasing his extensive offensive abilities with a 27-point explosion in the one-point loss to South East Melbourne.

On top of his scoring antics, he also involved fellow offensive threats Doyle and Jack McVeigh on offence and averaged six assists per game.

Jonah Bolden
12.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2 blocks per game | 36 SuperCoach ppg

He might still be coming off the bench for the Kings, but Round 3 saw the biggest hint of Jonah Bolden’s return to his best form since coming back to basketball.

Both Perth and Brisbane had no answer for the one-two punch of Jordan Hunter and Bolden at the centre spot, and Bolden dominated the boards in both appearances.

But it was the Wildcats and the twin towers of Keanu Pinder and Alex Sarr that had no answer for the former Philadelphia 76er, and Bolden ended the game with a season-high 15 boards and 13 points on 5-7 shooting in Sydney’s win over Perth.

Jaylen Adams
22 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists per game | 35 SuperCoach ppg

MVPs are going to MVP, and Jaylen Adams hasn’t skipped a beat upon his return to the Sydney Kings in NBL24.

The Kings have impressed with their range of offensive weapons this season, and Mahmoud Abdelfattah’s side are one of the best advertisements for the extra pass in recent NBL memory, but Adams is still starring with ball in hand and getting bulk buckets.

Adams can do a bit of everything as a point guard, but he shot particularly spectacularly in the win over Brisbane where he had 26 points on 9-15 shooting, including 2-3 from three.

Shannon Scott
10.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4 steals per game | 35 SuperCoach ppg

Brisbane may have lost both of its games in Round 3, but fans got to see the best of import guard Shannon Scott’s whole skillset across the Bullets’ pair of games.

His shot wasn’t falling in the high-scoring loss to Sydney, so Scott ensured he turned distributor to Nathan Sobey and Chris Smith, and finished the clash with a game-high 11 assists.

Then, against Melbourne, he fired with 19 points and shot 100 per cent from three.

It was a high-quality, veteran weekend from Scott – and he showed the ability to drop into whatever role his team needs.

Trey Kell III
25 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists | 33 SuperCoach ppg

As Adelaide has improved this season, so has Trey Kell – and the former South East Melbourne guard starred in the 36ers’ opening win of the season.

Trentyn Flowers rightly took headlines from the result with his game-winning fourth quarter performance, however it was Kell’s consistency throughout the first three terms that placed Adelaide in a position to finish strongly behind Flowers’ hot hand.

He’s shown over the past two weeks why he was such a highly sought-after recruit for the Phoenix last season, and while it didn’t work out in South East Melbourne, he’s beginning to look like a force in NBL24.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Trey Kell is up to 13 points in the first quarter, including this ridiculous closer ?<br><br>Catch the action live on ESPN via Kayo ? <a href="https://t.co/LhTe3V0ATW">pic.twitter.com/LhTe3V0ATW</a></p>&mdash; NBL (@NBL) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBL/status/1713087912110129501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 14, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Nathan Sobey
22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists per game | 32.5 SuperCoach ppg

The Bullets may have lost both their games in Round 3, but Nathan Sobey continued his scoring streak with a pair of exceptional individual performances against Sydney and Melbourne.

He scored at will in the high-scoring loss to the Kings, and when his shot wasn’t falling as freely against Melbourne he turned distributor with five assists and a pair of steals.

Brisbane may be on a slight form slide after its red-hot opening to the season, but it’s worth mentioning again that a firing Sobey is good for the NBL.

Gary Clark
15 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1 steal per game | 32 SuperCoach ppg

After a pre-season campaign full of optimism the Illawarra Hawks are faltering early in the new campaign, but the performances of Gary Clark to open his NBL career have been a bright spot for a side that’s struggling to find its identity.

Clark started the season slowly but is beginning to find his niche in the Hawks’ offence, and is making the most of his opportunities to put up consistent numbers across the board in Round 3.

The less said about the team performance against the JackJumpers to start the round, the better, but Clark was the lone bright spot in the 30-point defeat, and was solid again in the loss to Adelaide.
