Athletic Forward Signs on With Sydney

Wednesday, April 12, 2023
The Sydney Kings have dipped their toes into free agency for the first time since winning their second straight championship
The Sydney Kings have dipped their toes into free agency for the first time since winning their second straight championship, and have signed former Melbourne United forward Makuach Maluach on a two-year deal.
Maluach, 24, began his professional career in Finland following a four-year collegiate career with New Mexico before linking up with United.
Across 18 appearances last season he averaged 2.7 points per game, and scored nine points against the Kings in Round 4.
He’s currently playing for the Darwin Salties in NBL1 North, but Maluach says the pull of playing in front of family and friends was a key factor in deciding to sign on with the Kings.
“After living in Sydney for four years I went all around the world, so to get a chance to come back and play there is amazing,” Maluach said.
“I can’t actually remember the last time my family and friends had all come and watched me play, because it was hard when I was in the US, Europe, and even Melbourne.
“Sydney’s style of play, where everyone gets up and down the court quickly, also suits me and honestly it will help put me in the perfect position to succeed and hopefully help the Kings win another championship.”
“Makuach is a player we’ve had an eye on for a while,” Kings CEO Chris Pongrass added. “We’re thrilled to be able to land his signature for the next two seasons.
“His athleticism, size and quickness are all areas that compliment Chase and our coaches’ system – I’m confident Makuach will be able to improve.”
Maluach’s addition to the roster follows the re-signing of Jaylin Galloway, Jackson Makoi and Angus Glover, as well as Kouat Noi’s club option.
